Varsity Beats ET to Pull Even in League
The Triton Varsity team is 2-2 in league after beating El Toro 66-45 on Monday night. San Clemente has won its two league games (over Trabuco and ET) by a total of 34 points, and lost its two league games (to Aliso and Tesoro) by a total of just 4 points. After a close first quarter against El Toro, the Tritons extended to the lead to 12 at halftime. After a short lull in the third that saw the Chargers cut the lead to 5, the Tritons again pulled ahead with some fine outside shooting, drives to the basket and post play, anchored on the inside by Josh Walker and Max Marshall, and on the outside by Jacob Nemeth and Anthony Smetona. With Chris Kane, Jay Baggs and Nick Martino also controlling the boards and playing great defense, the Tritons pulled away in the fourth. Nemeth had 6 three-pointers and finished with 27 points, while even scoring was also had by Smetona with 11, Walker and Marshall with 10 each, Baggs with 7 and Kane with 1. San Clemente travels to Tesoro on Friday to start the second half of league.
