Aliso Niguel 63 San Clemente JV Tritons took on the Aliso Niguel Wolverines in their final home game of the season. The game was close through three quarters. Then came the fourth quarter where Aliso was escorted to the charity stripe to score almost half of their fourth quarter points. There was no recovering. Trabuco Hills 37 San Clemente JV Tritons met up with the Trabuco Hills Mustangs on Wednesday night for their second league game matchup. The Tritons, without their leading scorer, still managed to contain Trabuco and put points on the board with some familiar names on top of the leading scorer list. Ethan Sherrell led all scorers with 15. Berk Harris dropped 11 to be the only other Triton in double figures. Other scoring contributors included Gerkin (9), Monshietehadi (7), Regalado (6), Herlean (3), Gibbons (2), Herrod (2), Tomlinson (2). San Clemente 56
El Toro 44 San Clemente JV Tritons hosted the El Toro Chargers Monday night in another league match-up. The old saying goes: "Offense wins games. Defense wins championships." Bad things tend to happen when you don't play defense. It looked like it was going to be another frustrating night for the Tritons as El Toro powered their way to a first quarter lead over San Clemente 17-15. For once, the Tritons managed to stay out of foul trouble, took it to the rim against the Chargers and found themselves with multiple trips to the free throw line. Andrew Herbert, usually a rainmaker from outside, proved he was just as effective in the paint. Enough moments of defensive clarity allowed the Tritons to cage the Chargers for the remainder of game giving San Clemente the win over El Toro with a 56-44 final. Herbert, with only 1 three point shot, was still the leading scorer with 30 points. Micah Regalado stepped in and stepped up for 8. Other scoring was provided by Gerkin (6), Sherrell (4), Cuevas (4), Rex (2) and Ashe (2). San Clemente 59
Aliso Niguel 65 San Clemente JV went to visit the Aliso Niguel Wolverines on Wednesday night. From the opening tip the Wolverines made it clear that they were amped up and ready to give the Tritons some trouble. Like kids after a little too much sugar, Aliso swarmed San Clemente, running up and down the court, forcing turnovers and beating the Tritons on the boards. After being down 6 after the first quarter, the Tritons were down 27-19 at the half. Things didn't look much better after the third quarter with the Tritons down 41-31. San Clemente's pride kicked in during the fourth quarter and the Tritons managed to cut the lead to 2 down 49-47 with only seconds to go in regulation. After a timeout and with the ball San Clemente had a chance to tie the game and send it into overtime. A shot to tie the game bricked off the rim but Ethan Sherrell was there with the put-back to tie the game at the buzzer. The elation was temporary however as Aliso opened up a lead and San Clemente gave up 11 points from the foul line. The Tritons drop their second league game 65-59. Andrew Herbert led the scoring with 20. Ethan Sherrell dropped 17 and was the only other Triton in double figures. Other scoring was provided by Regalado (7), Herrod (6), Harris (3), Monshietehadi (2), Gerkin (2), Tomlinson (2). San Clemente 52
Trabuco Hills 42 The Tritons JV returned to the court on Friday night in another league game against the visiting Trabuco Hills Mustangs. The Tritons were trying to bounce back from a tough loss earlier in the week. With a return to defense and a more balanced scoring attack, including a stellar game from Berk Harris who torched the twine from beyond the arc, San Clemente appeared to be closer to regaining their pre-season form. The game was close until the Tritons finally broke it open in the fourth quarter. Tritons get the win over Trabuco Hills 52-42. Berk Harris led the scoring with 17 followed by Andrew Herbert (13). Other offensive contributors included Herrod (8), Sherrell (5), Tomlinson (5), Gerkin (2), Cuevas (2). San Clemente 64
Dana Hills 49 The Dana Hills Dolphins tried to swim with the San Clemente Tritons JV squad on Thursday night but it didn't turn out well. With a couple of high minute players riding the proverbial pine, the Tritons had more than enough in reserve to tame the Dolphins. San Clemente took the lead early and never looked back. Up 20-13 after the first quarter and 35-20 at half time, even after granting Dana 16 trips to the charity stripe in the second half alone, the Tritons still managed to ride the Dolphins to a 64-49 victory. Ethan Sherrell lead all scorers with 22. Berk Harris (12) and Gavin Cuevas (11) were the other Tritons in double figures. Other offensive contributions were provided by Monshietehadi (6), Gerkin (6), Hamro (3), Herrod (2) and Tomlinson (2).

J Serra 52 San Clemente Tritons JV met the J Serra Lions on Thursday night for the third time this season in their second game of the Dana Hills tournament. When you're not scoring you've got to play defense. That lesson was learned and adjustments were made after the Tritons found themselves losing to the Lions after the first quarter 20-11. San Clemente kept the Lions to 8 points in the second while lighting up the twine with Berk Harris and Andrew Herbert teaming up for a combined 19 points in the second quarter. The Tritons regained the lead by halftime 33-28 and didn't look back. The lead was extended to 51-38 after 3 quarters. The Tritons caged the Lions with a 64-52 final. Andrew Herbert lead scorers with 23 followed by Berk Harris with 12. Other scoring provided by Monshietehadi (7), Regalado (5), Gerkin (4), Sherrell (4), Tomlinson (4), Gibbons (3), Herrod (2). Laguna Hills 50 San Clemente Tritons JV opened the Dana Hils JV tournament on Wednesday with a match up against the Laguna Hills Hawks. With the usual starters waiting in the wings, the Tritons went to their bench to start. San Clemente ground out a 5 point lead after the first quarter 14-9 and finished the half up 6 with a 27-21 score. The usual starters were unleashed on the Hawks at the start of the second half and they proceeded to open up a comfortable 48-32 lead. The bench closed out the game with their own display of offensive prowess by matching the starters' output of 21 points for the fourth quarter. The Tritons take down the Hawks with a final score of 69-50. Gavin Cuevas lead all scorers with 14 points and was the only Triton in double figures. Additional scoring was provided by Ashe (9), Sherrell (8), Rex (7), Harris (6), Donam (5), Carlin (5), Herbert (4), Herrod, (4), Tomlinson (3), Monshietehadi (2), Gerkin (2). San Clemente's JV squad met up with the Tesoro Titans Saturday night for the final of the Aliso Niguel JV Classic. The game was everything you would expect from a final and didn't disappoint. McClay Gibbons stepped into the rotation and lit the fuse with a good-look three point shot. The Tritons and Titons battled for supremacy throughout the first quarter with San Clemente shooting to a first quarter 13-7 lead. San Clemente continued to defend and shoot well, extending their lead by the half to a 27-19 lead. When a team drops 18 points against you in a quarter that is usually a predictor of bad things to come, especially when they do it to you two quarters in a row. Tesoro pounded out 18 points against San Clemente in both the third and fourth quarter with only one three point shot to make it a 36 point second half for them. Despite donating 11 points to Tesoro from the charity stripe in the second half, San Clemente still managed to pull away, channeling their namesake with a wave of threes including three in the second half from McClay Gibbons. San Clemente took the Tritons-Titons battle with a 67-55 final. Andrew Herbert lead all scorers with 21 followed by Ethan Sherrell (16) and McClay Gibbons (14). Additional scoring was provided by Monshietehadi (5), Gerkin (5), Herrod (3), Tomlinson (2) and Harris (1).
No slow start this time. The San Clemente Tritons JV met up with the Trabuco Hills Mustangs in a semi-final matchup Thursday night. The Tritons opened with a mix of offensive and defensive weapons ready to face the fast running Mustangs. The Mustangs like to run. The Tritons crushed that. The Tritons like to shoot. They did. At the end of the first quarter the lead was 10 with San Clemente up 17-7. Trabuco Hills, not to be contained, returned the favor and chomped away at the Triton lead to come within 4 by halftime trailing San Clemente 27-23. An explosive third quarter from the Tritons both in the paint and beyond the arc broke the game open. Micah Regalado quietly did his work inside while the trio of Harris, Sherrell and Herbert provided air support from outside. At the end of the third quarter San Clemente saw it's lead extended to 14 leading 48-34. The Triton defense was there whenever the Mustangs tried to break free. San Clemente finally tamed the Mustangs with the final score 60-44. Andrew Herbert led all scorers with 32 points. Micah Regalado was the only other Triton in double figures with 11. Other scoring was provided by Harris (8), Gerkin (4), Sherrell (3) and Carlin (2).
The San Clemente Tritons JV entered the arena Wednesday night to face off against the El Toro Chargers looking to extend their run through the Aliso Niguel JV Classic tournament. The Chargers came hard early, knocking San Clemente back on their heels and taking an early lead. But the Tritons didn't panic. Trailing by two at the end of the first quarter the Tritons, with Berk Harris adding 5 more of his 9 first half points, out scored El Toro 16-1 to take a 29-16 lead at the half. San Clemente continued their run in the third quarter. Nate Gerkin basically ran the same play over and over again while Andrew Herbert mixed in a couple of daggars from beyond the arc. The Tritons closed it out, taking down the Chargers with a 55-41 final. The high scorer for the game was Andrew Herbert (16). Also in double digits were Nate Gerkin (11) and Berk Harris (11). Other scoring contributions were from Gibbons (6), Regalado (4), Cuevas (4), Tomlinson (2) and Herrord (1).
The San Clemente Tritons JV faced off against the J Serra Lions in a re-match Monday night. The Lions must have taken notes from the first match-up. They managed to contain San Clemente's offense and take advantage of their size in the paint and some open looks beyond the arc. With the score tied at 15 after the first quarter, the Lions lead by 4 at the half, keeping San Clemente to only 7 points in the second. The coaches Montecinos flipped some switches and turned a few dials at half time because the Tritons unleashed a torrent of threes from beyond the arc starting with three from Nate Gerkin and another from Andrew Herbert for good measure outscoring J Serra 19-9 in the third quarter. Now leading 41-35 the storm beyond the arc continued but this time it was Andrew Herbert crushing any hopes the Lions had of a comeback with four threes and 16 points in the fourth quarter. To add insult to injury San Clemente only allowed 2 points from J Serra in the fourth in a statement win with a 65-37 final. Andrew Herbert lead all scorers with 27 followed with 20 from Nate Gerkin and 12 from Ethan Sherrell. Other scoring came from Monshietehadi (2), Carlin (2) and Tomlinson (2).
The San Clemente Tritons JV hosted the Woodbridge Warriors on Friday night in a non-league meeting. With a combined 3 points between the two teams after almost 4 minutes of play it looked like it was going to be a long night. After Coach Mont deemed the starting unit ineffective he made a wholesale substitution with five new players. The subs, hungry for recognition, helped power the Tritons to a 12-6 lead by the end of the first quarter. The second quarter saw the Tritons return to something closer to form while still keeping the Warriors to single digits. San Clemente lead at half time 26-15. With an uncharacteristically even distribution of scoring the Tritons eventually finished off the Warriors with a 51-30 final.
