2015-16 SEASON WRAP UP
|
MARCH 9, 2016 - Only a single point in overtime of its first South Coast League game of the season kept the Triton Junior Varsity from winning its fifth consecutive league championship.
With a bevy of offensive threats from his 2014-15 squad having moved on to the varsity, Coach Oscar Montecinos adopted a more defensively minded philo-sophy this season. The result was an 18-8 record, 5-3 in league, with the Triton Junior Varsity holding most of its opponents under 40 points. The team won the consola-tion championship of the El Toro Tournament and finished second in the Dana Hills Tournament. Junior forward Evan Banks was the team's leading scorer and rebounder in all but a few games and was named its most valuable player. Other team award winners honored at the 51st Annual Triton Basketball Banquet on March 9 were junior Daniel Mircheff, offensive player of the year; junior Kurt Crapo, coaches' award; and sophomore Jacob Nemeth, most improved player. |
