2015-16 SEASON WRAP UP

   Back-to-Back League Champs
   Rewrite Several School Records

MARCH 9, 2016 - Four years ago, Triton Basketball had not won a varsity league championship in 38 years. Now it has won three of the last four, including this year's back-to-back titles, which came as part of a record-setting 21-win season. The 2015-16 Tritons broke the four decades-old single-season win record, which was set in 1973-74.
Senior guard Jake Cameron set the tone early, during San Clemente's home opener on December 10, when he hit eight three pointers to tie the single-game school record held by Cody Bean from the 2012-13 championship squad and Ben Straley from the turn-of-the-century team.
By the end of the year, Cameron had nailed 72 threes, breaking the old single-season school record of 71 set by R.J. Osborne in 2005-6.
Cameron was one of a record six Tritons to earn all-league honors with his second-team selection. Cole Fotheringham, the team MVP, and Gage Shelmidine, winner of the Triton Basketball Award, shared league MVP honors.

Offensive player of the year Dillon Waikle also was selected to the All-South Coast League first team, while defensive player of the year James Paterson got a second team nod. Junior Blake Birmingham garnered an honorable mention.
Fotheringham, a four-year letterman, became the winningest player in Triton Basketball history with 72 victories as a varsity player.
He also became the first in program history to earn three league championships during his San Clemente playing career. This helped him secure an All-County Sixth Team selection.
Not to be outdone, Shelmidine and Waikle were
named to both the Open Gym Premier and Orange County Optimists All-Star teams. Shelmidine added a second team All-CIF Southern Section Division 1AA selection, and was the only Orange County player so honored.
