The game marked the season debuts of football stars Sam Darnold, Shaughn Ritchie and Riley Whimpey from San Clemente's CIF finalist football squad. In particular, senior Darnold, who was league MVP as a sophomore, made his impact felt in a stat-sheet-filling performance with seven points, 10 rebounds, four assists and seven steals in only 20 minutes of play.
His life-long teammate, senior Nick Crankshaw, also filled the columns with a game-high 10 points, six rebounds, five assists, five steals and three blocked shots. Overall, eight players scored, and every player on the roster saw playing time.
