From the outset, the Tritons were more aggressive than Aliso, allowing San Clemente to jump out to a 12-10 lead at the end of a period. It led by as many as six in the opening stanza. The Tritons built on the lead through the next two quarters, taking a 50-38 lead into the fourth, then holding on for the win.
Sam Darnold's double-double, 19 points and 10 rebounds, led the Tritons. Also in double figures were Cade Griffin with 12 and Nicholas Crankshaw with 10. Crankshaw had a team-high six assists. Gage Shelmidine added seven points and a like number of rebounds.
Other Triton scoring came from Cole Fotheringham with six (he also had seven rebounds); Scott Herrod, six; and Joe Mann, four.
The Triton Varsity returns to action at 7 p.m. Friday when it hosts El Toro.
