San Clemente came into the game at 13-1 on the season and with a prior 11-point win over the Wolverines.
The game marked San Clemente's season-high in points allowed and season-low in points scored, which makes sense considering the Tritons couldn't stop dribble penetration and kick outs to open shooters, while they couldn't get much going offensively on their end of the floor. Aliso Niguel hit 14 three-pointers to San Clemente's three.
Falling behind early, as they have often done this season, the Tritons tempted fate once too often. The Wolverines jumped out to a 15-4 lead. Even though San Clemente was able to whittle the deficit to 19-13 at the end of the first quarter, Aliso was back up by 14 mid-way through the third before the Tritons once again cut the margin to five at the half. But that was the last rally the Tritons had in them, as they were outscored 34-19 in the second half.
In the loss, Roberto Medrano with 12 points led San Clemente scoring as its only player in double figures. Aidan Butler scored nine, and four players had five points each: Evan Banks, Blake Birmingham, Jake Cameron and James VanGinkel. Daniel Mircheff added two.
The junior varsity will try to get back on track at 5:30 p.m. Friday when it hosts El Toro in the Tritons' first 2014-15 game in Triton Gym.
