San Clemente was playing San Juan Hills without its stats leader Nick Crankshaw, who is trying to get a tender ankle ready for league play, while San Juan lacked it parallel, senior Vincent McFadden.
The Stallions opened the game five-of-seven from three-point range, staking themselves to leads of 15-11 after one period, and 27-24 at the half. Then the Tritons began pressing and trapping their way into steals and break-away hoops and a 46-39 lead after three. The margin ballooned to as much as 17, as the Tritons coasted home with all players seeing floor time.
Leading Triton scorers was Cade Griffin with 15, followed by Sam Darnold with 12. Additional scoring came from Cole Fotheringham and Gage Shelmidine, nine each; Scott Herrod, six; Dillon Waikle, five; Joe Mann, four; Shaughn Ritchie, three; and Vince Smetona, two.
Senior guard Mann sustained a scalp laceration during a collision midway through the third quarter that kept him the trainers' room and on the sideline the remainder of the game.
