Shelmidine's point total is a career high, and only six short of the school record. The team record for points in a game is 102. The senior point guard scored every one of his points either in the paint (26) or at the free throw line (10). He combined it with 13 rebounds and eight assists for a near triple-double.
Every starter scored in double figures, and two of them, Michael Moran and Dillon Waikle had double-doubles -- Moran with 10 points and 12 rebounds and Waikle with 16 and 14. Jake Cameron with 16 and Blake Birmingham with 12 rounded out the Tritons in double figures. Aidan Butler and Dylan Hauser each added a basket to record the team's first reserve points of the season.
After an evenly played first quarter, San Clemente pulled away to a 48-36 half-time lead. The lead was cut to six early in the third quarter before the Tritons began to steadily expand the margin through the late third and early fourth quarter.
For the second game in a row, San Clemente gave up 14 three pointers, seven of those to Eisenhower's Brandon Garner, who led the Eagles with 25 points. Ohryan Brooks added 21 and John Rodriguez 16.
The Tritons return to action in pool play at the Diablo Inferno at 4:30 p.m. Thursday against Valley View.
