Senior Night 2015 will be remembered by Triton Basketball as the night it clinched its second undisputed league title in three years, the third in school history. After pre-game ceremonies honoring the 11 senior members of the team and their families, San Clemente took control of the game against visiting Mission Viejo early and never looked back in a 71-46 win.
Every available player, including 10 of the 11 seniors, played. And 11 different Tritons scored in the game. No player posted big numbers, as Head Coach Marc Popovich freely rotated in fresh bodies against the short-handed Diablos, who only suited up seven players.
San Clemente led by only five, 17-12, after one period of play. But by halftime the margin was 16. The Tritons led by as many as 31 in the second half, while coasting home with the win.
Three San Clemente players were in double figures: Sam Darnold, 14; Joe Mann, 13; and Nick Crankshaw, 10. Crankshaw, filled the stat sheet with six rebounds and eight assists. Just missing double-figure scoring was Cade Griffin with nine. He also had six rebounds. Gage Shelmidine and Tyler Voigt each added five points; Shaughn Ritchie, four; Cole Fotheringham, Scott Herrod and Dillon Waikle, three each; and Dean Licht, two.
San Clemente (17-7, 7-0) has an opportunity at Dana Hills on Thursday to finalize its first undefeated league season in school history.
