Whether or not this means an immediate return to the court remains to be seen, but it would nonetheless be great news for the Tritons, who have scuffled to a 2-4 record without him. San Clemente will still be without center Erik Anderson (wrist) until January, and transfer point guard Gage won't be eligible under CIF rules until January 7. In the meantime, Coach Marc Popovich has been building depth for the team's run at repeating as league champions, with the league opener still a month away.
That run is looking like a challenging one as last week the Orange County Register ranked league foe Dana Hills No. 10 in the county. Then another league challenger, Trabuco Hills, went out and beat No. 3 Villa Park and No. 9 Aliso Niguel.
On the junior varsity level, the team is learning to play without starting point guard James Paterson, who is expected to miss the remainder of the season with a hip injury suffered against Woodbridge. They used Thursday's game against an outmanned Steele Canyon to start adjusting to his absence.
The Triton sophomores are expected to return to full strength this week with the return of 6-2, 240 center Donte Harrington and 5-11, 150 point guard Dylan Hauser.
Harrington has yet to play this year, while recovering from a knee injury. Hauser played in a total of one quarter with a lower back injury that forced him to the sidelines.
Relatively healthy, the Triton frosh hope to get back lsaac Rex, who has led the team in scoring off the bench. He sat out the Steele Canyon game with a sore back.
These four teams are all in tournament action this week. Go to the schedule pages to see details. In additition, the frosh black team has a matchup at Aliso Niguel on Thursday.
