Herrod scored a career-high 24 points on 8 of 11 (73 percent) shooting to lead San Clemente to a 74-66 win over Aliso Niguel. He connected on five of seven three-point attempts. The victory puts San Clemente into the CIF Playoffs for the seventh consecutive year, a school record. One more win will give the Tritons (15-7, 5-0) at least a share of the league championship. They travel to El Toro on Friday.
Also stepping up for San Clemente was junior forward Cole Fotheringham with 12 points and eight rebounds off the bench, a bench whose performance managed to somewhat overshadow another near-triple double from senior guard Nick Crankshaw. He finished the game with 15 points, nine rebounds and eight assists, as well as four blocked shots. Additional Triton scoring came from Gage Shelmidine with seven; Joe Mann and Dillon Waikle, six each; and Cade Griffin, four.
Aliso came into the game at 4-1 in league, only a game behind the Tritons. Now, they drop into a second-place tie with El Toro.
