But San Clemente shook off early offensive struggles to lead by eight at halftime and 13 midway through the third quarter. Then San Clemente withstood a barrage of Sea King three-pointers in the fourth quarter to secure the victory.
Triton Coach Chris Schefter appeared confident throughout of his team's ability to close things out down the stretch. He substituted liberally before relying on his starters to bring home the win.
Dylan Hauser led San Clemente with game highs in points, 12, and assists, 7. Center Donte Harrington posted a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. He was one of three Tritons with double-digit rebounds. Justin Kowalski led the team with 13, and Aidan Butler had 10. Ten of Kowalski's rebounds came in the first half alone. Other Triton scoring came from Butler with 8; Andrew Frohner, Lukas Katsandris and Brad Ross, 4 each; Chase Gutierrez and Dillon Waikler, 3 each; and Ian Vikan and Chadwell Walker, 2 each.
The sophomores have little time to celebrate as they return to action at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in a Sea View League contest at Dana Hills. The Tritons lost to the Dolphins on December 21, but were playing without Hauser.
