Leading by a point two minutes into the final quarter, Daniel Klevit scored six consecutive points. Not to be outdone, San Clemente point guard Jake Russell matched him, scoring six straight of his own to essentially put the game away. Klevit with 12 and Russell with 11 wound up leading Triton scorers.
To that point, it had been an uncharacteristically down-tempo game for the JV, as Laguna Hills had no trouble with the San Clemente press, was very deliberate on offense and shot the ball well to keep the game within six to eight points through the first three quarters. Then the Hawks closed the gap to one entering the fourth, leading to the heroics by Klevit and Russell.
No Triton player had more than seven shot attempts in the game. Ryan Martinez added 9 points; Cullen Tayrien, 8; Marcus Wilson, 5; Dean Licht, 4; Brandon Reaves, Tucket Scott and Tyler Voigt, 3 each; and Jake Cameron, Rafael Caro and Shaughn Ritchie, 2 each. It was Scott's first game action of the season after recovering from a foot injury incurred while playing on the Triton varsity football team.
