The realignment has been voted on by league athletic directors, but is subject to final approval by the CIF Southern Section.
Realignment occurs every bi-annually in the Coast View Athletic Association, whose membership encompasses the 10 public high schools in the Capistrano and Saddleback unified school districts. During this process, the top-performing teams over the past two years are moved up to the South Coast League, and the lower-performing teams are moved down.
In this case, the Tritons are coming off a first-place finish in 2013 and a third in 2014 for a total of four points. Dana Hills has a tie for second in 2013 and a tie for first in 2014, also four points. Interestingly, Trabuco Hills, with the same results as Dana Hills over the past two years, reportedly asked to be removed from promotion consideration.
Once the realignment is confirmed by the CIF office, the new leagues will appear as follows: South Coast – San Clemente, Aliso Niguel, Dana Hills, El Toro, Mission Viejo; Sea View – Capistrano Valley, Laguna Hills, San Juan Hills, Tesoro, Trabuco Hills.
