The game was played in the Auxiliary Gym at SCHS, an ancillary venue for the Dana Tournament, with game time moved up to 3 p.m. to accommodate the football game being played later in the evening just yards away in Thalassa Stadium.
San Clemente never trailed the Diablos, but never really pulled away to a comfortable margin either. Holding Mission Viejo to only two third-quarter points allowed the Tritons to build their five-point half-time lead to low double digits. They were able to protect the lead to close out the win.
Triton scoring was led by Chris Kane with 10, the only player in double figures for either team. Nick Martino was right behind him with nine. Other San Clemente points came from Austin Whitsett and Logan Dunnwalk with four each; Frankie Lewis with three; and Max Marshall, Michael McGreevy, Jacob Nemeth, Calvin Pastel and Branden and Bryan Wilson, each with 2.
The frosh wrap up the Dana Hills Tournament with an 11:20 a.m. game on Saturday.
