Nick Crankshaw's deep three pointer with 10 seconds remaining closed the gap. The Tritons face Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks in a second-round tournament game at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3.
Woodbridge and San Clemente seemed to play mirror-image styles, relying on full-court presses and traps to drive transition offense. Woodbridge, however, was more reliant on the three ball, missing early, and allowing the Tritons to lead 31-27 at the half.
In a tightly officiated contest, foul trouble for both teams caused them to settle in to their half-court offense more in the second half. And as San Clemente tried to pull away, Woodbridge's three-point shooters heated up.
The loss squadered some standout performance for the Tritons, who were led in scoring by guard Elijah Morris with 16.
Sophomore forward Cole Fotheringham recorded his first Triton double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Crankshaw, with 11, had a perfect shooting night. He hit four of four from the field, including the late three, and two of two from the free throw line. He added six assists and six rebounds.
Also cracking double figures was senior forward Austin Miller with 10. Cade Griffin scored 8, Scott Herrod,7, and Joe Mann, 2.
Notes: The Tritons were without the services of returning Sea View League and team MVP Sam Darnold (injury) and point guard Gage Shelmidine (transfer waiting period).
