After an evenly played first quarter, from which San Clemente emerged with a 16-15 lead, the Tritons took control of the game with a 24-point second quarter, then put it away by outscoring Temecula Valley 18-10 in the third. San Clemente led 58-40 at the end of three periods.
Leading scorer for the Tritons was senior guard Joe Mann with 16. He was one of four San Clemente players in double figures. Scott Herrod has 12, and Nick Crankshaw and Gage Shelmidine each added 10.
Crankshaw added to his reputation as the team's human stat sheet with seven rebounds, seven assists and three steals. The assists were a team high, and the steals tied for team honors with Shelmidine.
Making his first varsity appearance, 6-8 junior Dillon Waikle led the team in both rebounds, 8, and blocked shots, 4. He chipped in two three pointers for six points.
Other Triton scoring came from Tyler Voigt, who also had 6; Vince Smetona, 5; James Paterson, 4; and Jake Cameron, 2.
