San Clemente never trailed in its game against Valley View, but it never really pulled away. The team expanded a six point first-quarter led to seven at the half. Finally, during the third period, the Tritons put some distance between themselves and the Eagles, entering the final quarter with a 52-42 lead.
But San Clemente opened the final period struggling against Valley View's full-court pressure, seeing its lead shrink to only four points before junior guard Blake Birmingham changed the momentum for good with a three pointer. He would notch nine of his 11 points during the deciding quarter.
The Tritons were led by Dillon Waikle with 24 points. He is averaging just under 22 so far this season. The senior center added 13 rebounds. Another double-double was recorded by point guard Gage Shelmidine with 15 points and 11 assists. Jake Cameron got the scoring going early, hittting three three-pointers in the first quarter. He would have five for the game en route to 17 points. Michael Moran contributed 4 points, while Aidan Butler and Roberto Medrano each added 2 points.
