The result also represented validation for the Coast View Conference structure, with the upper-tier South Coast League champion Tritons defeating the lower-tier Sea View League champion Titans.
San Clemente took a narrow, 11-10, lead into the second quarter, but assumed control for good by holding Tesoro to only four second-quarter points. It also held the Titans in single digits, eight, in the fourth period.
Senior Dillon Waikle paced the Tritons on offense with 22 points. Cole Fotheringham recorded his 11th double-double of the season by scoring 13 points and pulling down 14 rebounds. Gage Shelmidine with 13 points and 7 assists also was in double figures for San Clemente. Additional Triton scoring came from James Paterson with 7 points, as well as Aidan Butler and Michael Moran with 2 each.
The Trition Varsity concludes the regular season at 7 p.m. Thursday when it hosts Dana Hills on Senior Night. With a victory, San Clemente will be the uncontested, back-to-back league champions and will tie the record for most wins in program history.
