San Clemente led from the opening quarter through much of the fourth quarter. The scores were 7-2 after the first, 17-13 at the half and 30-23 at the end of three periods, all in favor of the Tritons. But a five-plus minute San Clemente scoring drought in the fourth, combined with Triton foul trouble putting Capistrano in the bonus early in the period, allowed the Cougars to seize the lead and the momentum. Still, the Tritons had the ball down three points with 11 seconds to play, but couldn't close the gap.
The only San Clemente player in double figures was Daniel Klevit with 13 to go with his double-double producing 10 rebounds. He also had a team season-high 4 blocks. No one else had more than six points for the Tritons. This was accomplished by three players, Ryan Martinez, Dean Licht and Jake Russell. Tucker Scott added 4 points, and Tyler Voigt, 2.
In their next game, the junior varsity will host Edison at 5:30 p.m. January 3
