Staking an early claim that the race for the 2015 South Coast League championship goes through San Clemente, the Triton Varsity sits alone in first place at 10-7, 2-0 in league. It will travel to Mission Viejo (5-13, 1-1) for a 7 p.m. contest on Wednesday.
Then on Friday the Tritons host rival Dana Hills (5-14, 0-2), wrapped around their 50th anniversary celebration.
Before they take on the Diablos and Dolphins, the lower divisions host Corona del Mar for a special Martin Luther King Day matinee.
The Triton Junior Varsity (14-2, 1-1) has the late game at 3 p.m. against the Sea Kings. When it travels to Mission Viejo at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, it will be looking to stay alive in the SCL title hunt after splitting its first two games. It has not had a pre-league game against the Diablos, but did dominate an Irvine team which had beaten Mission Viejo the night before.
As for the Dolphins, whom the Triton J.V. hosts at 5:30 p.m. Friday, San Clemente beat a Dana Hills team in late December, but it is suspected that team was predominately the Dana Hills sophomores.
San Clemente's J.V. hopes to avoid another league loss in hopes of having another shot at Aliso Niguel, which it lost to in its league opener.
Also in first place in league is the Triton Soph (8-5,2-0). After its 1:30 p.m. game on Monday against the Sea Kings, it will host a Mission Viejo team on Wednesday against which it split two pre-league contests, both by a margin of four points.
As for Dana, Friday's away opponent, the sophomores beat a Dana Hills team by 22 in late December. It is suspected that Dolphin squad was heavily peppered with frosh B players.
The Triton Frosh (9-6, 1-1) will use its noon Monday matchup against Corona del Mar as an opportunity to regroup from last Friday's league loss to El Toro.
In an early December, pre-league game against Wednesday's 4 p.m. guest, Mission Viejo, San Clemente won by 14. The Triton Frosh have not faced Dana Hiils, which it travels to at 4 p.m. Friday.
The Triton Frosh B, which is 6-2 so far this season, also takes on Dana Hills. Its away game is at 7 p.m. Friday.
