Birmingham came out firing in the first quarter, when he had nine of the Tritons' 16 points. Nonetheless, they only had a one-point 16-15 lead. San Clemente began to pour it on the the second, outscoring Del Norte 22-11 en route to a 43-29 half-time lead. Birmingham had 20 at the half.
The Tritons cooled off somewhat in the third period, allowing Del Norte to hang around at 52-38 going to the fourth. One more surge allowed the Tritons to coast home in the fourth.
Aidan Butler and Daniel Mircheff joined Birmingham in double figures with 12 points a piece, while no Del Norte player scored in double figures. For the Tritons, Dylan Hauser and James VanGinkel each added six points. Ricardo Ashe, Evan Banks and Roberto Medrano eachunior had two.
The junior varsity returns to action at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday when it takes on Army-Navy Academy in a quarterfinal game being played in the Warriors' home gym.
