Six foot five inch, 280 pound Max Marshall scored a team season-high 26 points, including an insurance three-point play with seconds remaining in the game, to lift the Triton Junior Varsity to a 50-44 win over Dana Hills in the consolation semifinal of the El Toro Tournament. San Clemente advances to its second consolation final of the season at 4:15 p.m. Saturday.
Marshall's final points came after Dana had cut the Triton lead to two points with 21 seconds remaining and after junior guard Jimmy Varos had hit two free throws to give San Clemente a four-point cushion. The Tritons trailed 28-23 at halftime, but took control of the game by outscoring the Dolphins by 11, 16-5, in the third quarter.
Joining Marshall in double figures was Daniel Mircheff with 10. Kurt Crapo added three, while four players, Nick Martino, Bruce Wilson, Evan Banks and Jimmy Varos had 2.
