Banks Banks It to Bank, Triton JV Come Alive at Free Throw Line to Beat El Toro

2/3/2016

With offense tough to come by, the Triton Junior Varsity took it any way it could in pulling out a 33-28 victory over El Toro. Evan Banks banked in a three-pointer in the final minute to give San Clemente the lead after the team had rallied back from an eight-point fourth-quarter deficit mainly by connecting at the free throw line.
Prior to the fourth quarter, the Tritons were 0-6 at the line. But the team connected on 9 of 13 free throws in the final period, first to close the gap, then to lock up the win.
Banks was the only player on either team in double figure with 11 points. Nick Martino added 6, including four of the big fourth-quarter free throws. Daniel Mircheff and Jacob Nemeth each had 4 points, while Austin Whitsett, Kurt Crapo, Ricardo Ashe and Max Marshall each had 2.
The Triton Junior Varsity (4-2, 17-6) remains tied for first place in the South Coast League as it host Aliso Niguel at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
