The 50th Anniversary Extrava-ganza will be held on January 23 in conjunction with the Tritons' South Coast League contest against Dana Hills. Prior to that game, the program will present those players selected to the 50 at 50 Team, the 50 greatest players in Triton hoops history.
For the season overall, things get started on November 15 when all teams scrimmage against Trabuco Hills. This represents a change in the Tritons' traditional scrimmage opponent, formerly Aliso Niguel. With San Clemente moving up to the South Coast League, the teams opted to change their scrimmage partners to teams they will not face in league.
In addition to Aliso Niguel and San Clemente, the South Coast League includes Dana Hills, El Toro and Mission Viejo. League play will open January 14. The teams will play each other twice in league, home and away.
The varsity will host its annual Alumni Game, conveniently scheduled for Wednesday, November 27, the night before Thanksgiving.
After that, there will a lot going on in Triton Basketball. Not the least of this is the Triton Varsity's competition in the Cactus Jam Hoops Classic on December 26-30 in Tempe, Arizona. See sidebar for more information about this tourney.
The Cactus Jam ups the ante for the Tritons from an already tough tournament schedule, which includes their return to the Diablo Inferno Tournament (December 1-6) and the Irvine World News Tournament (December 15-20).
Another special event will be Senior Night, which is expected to be a big celebration due to the probability of a senior-laden varsity squad. The varsity will play a tough non-league schedule, which will include its hosting games in the Orange County/San Diego Challenge on December 13. The Tritons will take on La Jolla at 7:30 p.m. See sidebar for more information on this event.
Other non-league opponents for the varsity will be Woodbridge (December 9), Corona Del Mar (December 23 in the North OC/South OC Challenge), Troy (January 6), San Juan Hills (January 9) and the renewal of the traditional rivalry game against Tesoro (January 30).
On the junior varsity level, the Tritons will take on a new tournament, Sage Creek in Carlsbad on December 1-6. The J.V. also will return to the El Toro Tournament (December 15-20), where it will be the defending champion, and the Dana Hills Tourney (December 26-30).
Non-league opponents for the junior varsity will be Woodbridge (December 9), Troy (January 6), San Juan Hills (January 9), Corona Del Mar (January 19) and Tesoro (January 30).
The sophomore team will return to the same tourneys as last season: Capistrano Valley (December 1-6), Fountain Valley (December 15-20) and Laguna Hills (December 26-30). Its non-league opponents will be Troy (January 6), Corona Del Mar (January 19) and Tesoro (January 30).
Likewise, the Triton Frosh will repeat its 2013-14 tournament schedule with stops at Dana Hills (December 3-6), Laguna Hills (December 15-20), El Toro (December 26-30) and Mission Viejo Frosh B (December 8-14). San Clemente is the defending champion of both the Laguna Hills and El Toro tournaments.
The frosh non-league opponents will be Woodbridge (December 9), La Jolla (December 13), Troy (January 6), San Juan Hills (January 9), Corona Del Mar (January 19) and Tesoro (January 30).
